Meet Mr. History: Stories, Secrets, and Travel Hacks from British Columbia.

Hello, dear traveler!

Welcome to my world.

My name is Mr. History, and I’ll be your companion through one of the most fascinating journeys you can take — discovering British Columbia and its capital, Victoria.

But let me be clear: I am not a typical historian locked in dusty archives, nor a tour guide rushing you from one monument to the next. I’m something else. I’m a storyteller, a curious wanderer, a traveler in time. And I believe that the best way to explore a place is to walk not only through its streets, but also through its past.
Why history belongs in travel Think about it. When you visit a city, you can admire its streets and snap a dozen photos. But what remains of those pictures a year later? Just another folder on your phone.
Now imagine knowing the story behind those same streets.

Imagine realizing that the Parliament Buildings in Victoria were built during a wave of ambition and optimism at the end of the 19th century, or that the name “British Columbia” was chosen in a moment of empire and rivalry. Suddenly, the stones, the waters, the names — they speak. They stay with you. They turn a trip into an experience you’ll never forget.

That is my mission here: to make your travels richer, deeper, and more meaningful — by uncovering the stories behind the places.

“History is not in books. It’s in the streets we walk.”

What to expect here. Every week, I’ll bring you a new chapter from British Columbia. Each chapter will have two faces, like a coin:

  • A story. It could be about the gold rush that brought thousands of dreamers, the forgotten ghost towns left behind, or the legends of the First Nations that still echo in totems and art. It could be about why Vancouver carries the name of a captain, or why Victoria still feels like a piece of England on the Pacific.

  • A travel hack. Real, practical, useful. Where to find hidden cafés in Victoria, how to reach Vancouver Island cheaper and smarter, which hikes give you the best views without the crowds, and how to enjoy sunsets that look like they belong on postcards — without paying a dime.
So think of this blog as half history book, half smart travel guide. And me, Mr. History, as your guide, always mixing stories with tips you can use on your next trip.

Why British Columbia?

Because here, past and present are inseparable.
British Columbia is British in name, Canadian in identity, but global in its spirit. It’s a land of paradoxes:

  • A young province, yet rooted in ancient traditions of the First Nations.
  • Cities that feel modern and fast, yet carry echoes of colonial charm.
  • Nature that is untamed and vast, yet surprisingly accessible to anyone with curiosity and good shoes.
For me, British Columbia is not just a destination. It’s a storybook, one that opens with every ferry ride, every mountain trail, every old street corner.

The journey begins.

This is just the beginning. Soon, we’ll dive into our first true story: “Why is it called British Columbia?” — a tale of ships, empires, and politics that defined the map of North America.
So grab a coffee, settle in, and let’s start this adventure together.

Welcome to the journey.

Welcome to Mr. History’s world !!!
